Citability Score
Your Citability Score measures how ready a page is to be quoted by AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It reads the HTML a crawler actually receives and looks at four things: how the answer is formatted, the evidence behind it, freshness, and whether AI crawlers can get in. The score, a verdict on each and your biggest fix are free.
Free, no account. We read one page as Ranklet-Audit, the same way an AI crawler would, and honour your robots.txt.
What we check
-
Answer formatting
Does the page open with a direct answer, and answer the questions people ask next?
-
Evidence
Are its claims backed by attributed figures, with links to where they came from?
-
Freshness
Can a reader, and an engine, see when the page was last updated?
-
Crawler access
Can AI search crawlers fetch the page, and is its content in the HTML they receive?
Two more checks need a target keyword, so they run only when you audit a page from a Ranklet brief.
Questions
- How is the score calculated?
- Fixed rules, no AI judgement: the same page always gets the same score. Evidence and answer formatting count most, because attributed figures and direct answers are what AI engines quote. A page that search crawlers can't reach can't score high, however well it's written.
- Why is my score low when the content is good?
- Your robots.txt may block a crawler that feeds AI answers, such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Googlebot. No content fix changes that, so the score stays low until the crawler is allowed back in. The report names the crawler when this happens.
- Does a high score guarantee AI citations?
- No. The score measures whether your page can be lifted and trusted as an answer. Engines also weigh the query, your authority and the competing pages.
- Why don't you score FAQ schema or llms.txt?
- Google retired the FAQ rich result on 7 May 2026, and a 1,885-page controlled test showed no AI-citation effect. 97% of valid llms.txt files in a 137,000-domain study got no requests. We report both but don't score them.
- Is this the same as Ranklet's page audit?
- Same engine. The in-app audit adds the two checks that need your target keyword, and coaching on your opening paragraph.
- Why couldn't you check my page?
- Your robots.txt blocks Ranklet-Audit, the page took longer than 10 seconds, or it's larger than 5 MB.
